MEMPHIS, Tenn., USA, Oct. 1, 2015 – Buckman would like to congratulate José Carlos Pivello on winning the Edward Weiss Memorial Award earlier this year. The Ed Weiss Award is a merit award given annually to a Buckman associate whose individual endeavors over the previous 12 months have had an extraordinary impact on the company’s regional and global efforts in the leather industry.
Pivello, who has been with Buckman 18 years, works in Southern Cone as a Leather Regional Manager. He initially worked in Buckman’s Performance Chemicals segment, but joined the leather division in 2006. Currently, José Carlos is a subject matter expert in microbiology and works mostly with Buckman Beamhouse and Tanyard System. José Carlos is responsible for a large portion of Buckman’s leather revenue growth over the past year, along with being involved with several key projects and teams to move future business forward.
“One of José Carlos’ greatest virtues is how easily he builds relationships with different people of different levels, including customers, peers, colleagues, leaders and direct reports,” said Luís Stertz, Leather Division Manager - Brazil. “It is really a pleasure to work with José Carlos.”
Pivello, who was presented his award in April, is the 14th recipient of the Edward Weiss Memorial Award. The award’s namesake, Ed Weiss, was a graduate of the Tanner’s Council Leather School, located at the University of Cincinnati. He was hired at Buckman in 1952 as a young graduate by Stanley J. Buckman to begin selling microbicides into the leather industry. For many years, Ed was the senior technical specialist in leather for Buckman, and much of the success Buckman has enjoyed in this industry can be traced to Weiss’s work. He is often referred to as the “father of leather” at Buckman, hence the significance of naming this annual honor after him.
