Yogesh Kumar wins Edward Weiss Memorial Award

R. S. Yogesh Kumar, who has been with Buckman for 18 years, works in Thailand as a senior technical service manager for leather. During his tenure, Yogesh has not only shown significant business growth in Thailand, but has also set the bar for technical expertise across the globe. After locating to Thailand, he took the initiative to learn Thai, became accustomed to local traditions and customs and helped establish Buckman in the area.

“One of Yogesh’s greatest attributes is his dedication, sincerity and commitment to Buckman’s customers and their operational success,” said Karthikeyan Manoharan, Leather Division Manager. “He is the benchmark that we should all follow, not only in Thailand, but in all markets. It is a pleasure to work with Yogesh and I am proud that his contributions to the leather industry are being recognized globally.”

Yogesh Kumar, who was presented the award in March, is the 16th recipient of the Edward Weiss Memorial Award. The award’s namesake, Ed Weiss, was a graduate of the Tanner’s Council Leather School, located at the University of Cincinnati. As a young graduate, Ed was hired at Buckman in 1952 by Stanley J. Buckman to begin selling microbicides in the leather industry. For many years, Ed was the senior technical specialist in leather for Buckman, and much of Buckman’s success in the leather industry can be attributed to Weiss’ efforts. He is often referred to as the “father of leather” at Buckman and therefore it was very fitting for this annual honor to be named after him.
